It just occurred to me that I can finally do a whole before and after comparison.

  1. The bike looks fantastic, I have just bought one identical to yours, well apart from all your shiny bits. I hope to get it as nice as yours one day. Where did you get your indicator stalks, did you have them already, do you have any spare? Cheers. Graeme

    1. Hi Graeme and thanks for your kind comments. The indicator stalks were a mix of EBay NOS (2) and rechromed (2). I probably still have the 2 old rusty ones somewhere but not sure if they were front or rear. Good luck with your restoration - be careful it's easy to spend lots of money.....

    1. Not sure of the colour - I wanted it to be the same as the 400 Four, which is Candy Antires Red I think from memory. The guy doing mine couldn't find that (I think you can get it from RS Paints) so I chose one from memory and really like it - all I remember is that it was a malagutti colour - shoudl have made a note of the code but I forgot!
I can e-mail you a HD photo if you like. Send me your address.

  3. Cracking looking bike! You have definitely brought it back to life, glad to ear you are also making use of it! I have just acquired a 1978 400t dream, in the 'candy blue' that yours once was. I am very pleased with the bike and it is in pretty good condition. Mechanically I starts and runs well, although is only happy to plod at now more the 50mph without sounding strained. Is this your experience with the bike? Cosmetically I am going to strip it down to give it a good clean this winter, and also get the tank and side panels resprayed, hopefully in candy blue again. Would you know where I can get hold of some decals to stick back on? I have seen some on ebay, but they are £60! I have also experienced the 'seizing' up of the front brake that you mention later in blogs, the previous owner has had the seals replaced before, so I think I am going to replace the cylinder and caliper together. Hope you have fun riding! Regards, Phil, Essex
